Jaden Smith Opens “I Love You” Truck To Give Free Vegan Food to Homeless People

The majority of Americans celebrate their 21st birthday by celebrating the fact that they are now legally allowed to order a drink.

On the other hand, Jaden Smith, who turned 21 on July 8, had more charitable intentions for his birthday weekend. The actor, singer, and activist, as well as the son of Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith, spent his weekend opening the I Love You Restaurant, a food truck that serves homeless people free vegan meals.

The I Love You Restaurant opened its doors (or rather, its windows) on Skid Row in Downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, July 7, serving a huge homeless population. People in need waited in line to collect a paper bag filled with “I Love You Bowls,” which were packed with healthful whole foods including rice, quinoa, sweet potato, and kale, according to Instagram photographs of the vegan meals.

“I Love You Restaurant is a movement that is all about giving people what they deserve, healthy, vegan food for free,” Smith wrote on his personal Instagram alongside a few photos of the food truck. “Today we launched our first one-day food truck pop-up in Downtown LA. Keep a lookout because this is the first of many.” Smith has yet to reveal when and where future I Love You Restaurant pop-ups will take place, but it’s wonderful that he intends to use the truck to give back to his community.

A post on the truck’s Instagram account states, “LA ‘I Love You.’ All the food is free and vegan.” “We are the I Love You Restaurant,” the Instagram post says, besides a shot of a cargo truck with the words “Erys: And Everything Bad For You” written on it. Smith’s second studio album, “Erys,” was released on Friday, July 5, and Smith told Flaunt that his next album will be called “And Everything Bad For You.”

Smith is seen posing in front of a black truck with the words “I Love You Restaurant” on the side; there are also photographs and videos of volunteers dishing out meals to a line of people, as well as a video of volunteers unloading cases of JUST Water. JUST Water is a firm started by Jaden and Will Smith with the goal of revolutionizing single-use bottled water by packaging it in a sustainable and recyclable bottle.

Smith is a vegan, so it’s no surprise that he chose the I Love You Restaurant to continue his ethical diet. Furthermore, many individuals believe that if the entire world went vegan, we would be able to eradicate world hunger.

According to Our Land in Data, 80 percent of the world’s agricultural land is used to grow crops for livestock, which only provide 20% of the world’s calories; additionally, a study published on Elementa Science found that the planet’s current food production is enough to sustain the global population — if we stop eating meat.

According to the United Nations, 815 million people on the planet are malnourished, therefore it makes sense that we could feed more people if we ate more plants instead of filtering their nutrients through animals.

Smith has a couple of additional environmental accomplishments in addition to the I Love You Restaurant and JUST Water.

Smith was honored by the Environmental Media Association (EMA) in 2016 for his environmental efforts, and Peta2 named him one of the sexiest vegan celebrities of 2018; he is also an investor in Impossible Foods.
