18-year old Kyle Rittenhouse was acquitted of all charges Friday after pleading self-defense in the fatal shooting of Kenosha that went sparked debate over guns, and racial injustice.
As soon as Rittenhouse heard the verdict of Not Guilty, he cried and hugged one of his attorneys.
Rittenhouse was charged with homicide, attempted homicide and reckless endangering after killing two men and wounding a third with an AR-style semi-automatic rifle. Riots, and protests broke out nationwide summer of 2020 over this and rightfully so.
When we take a deeper look into this case, more specifically jury, you’ll see that the jury was mostly white and they deliberated for close to 3 1 1/2 days.
We would’ve gotten life in prison if convicted but clearly that didn’t happen.
Rittenhouse was 17 at the time of the shootings.
He testified that he acted in self-defense when he shot and killed two protesters and wounded a third during a night of unrest in August.
We know good and well it wasn’t self defense..
This is ridiculous but at this moment are we surprised? We all wanted and needed this conviction but what’s next? What can we do moving forward? How do we protect each other? All valid questions.
