Drake surprised a University of Miami undergraduate student with a $50,000 scholarship when he revealed the music video for his single “God’s Plan” in 2018.
Destiny Paris James, who was reared in a single-parent household, went on to graduate from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and earn her master’s degree, and she’s been keeping her fans up to date on her progress.
During her first Ted Talk, James joined Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., and began her work as a community engagement coordinator, which she recently shared in a TikTok video.
She also admitted to being a broke, miserable college student in the TikTok video.
With a record company giving him close to a million dollars to shoot the video, Drake toned down the production and handed Miami citizens a financial blessing in Drake’s 2018 music video’s opening.
During her time as an undergraduate student, James admitted in a 2018 interview that she faced financial and personal difficulties.
“When I had a certain bill coming up, I would literally obsess over when the pay period starts and ends,” she said, The Miami Hurricane reports. “I would try to squeeze in as many hours and go to my WorkDay and write down all my hours and see how big my check was going to be.”
Before she was astonished by Drake strolling into the room with a check, she said she was told about the option to appear in a video about alumni giving.
