Twin Sisters Score Matching GPAs and Graduate as Co-Valedictorians

Identical twin sisters, Tyra Smith and Tia Smith both scored a perfect 4.0-grade point average including all the twelve advanced placement courses they took. The twins scored the highest points in their class and graduated as co-valedictorians at the Lindblom Math and Science Academy in the South Side of Chicago. In an interview with Good Morning America, Tyra said that they took advantage of their time together to support and pull each other up. She further expressed her delight in the fact that both of them made it to the top.

Tyra loved problem-based math and biotechnology while Tia loved US history and human geography. Besides their amazing academic achievement, the twins were also the pioneers of More Than 28, the very first black antiquity art gallery in the school. Tyra and Tia also love theatre and had some time back worked with Baxter International Disease, a healthcare company, to educate the community about kidney diseases. Additionally, the twins have also featured as screenwriters in one of the episodes in the television hit series, “Black-ish”. Tia is particularly grateful to Theater 1 for molding her into the person that she is today. The twins were awarded full scholarships and will pursue theater majors in college. However, they will attend different universities. Tyra will pursue theatre and economics at Northwestern University while Tia will pursue theatre and statistics at Duke University.

The twin’s mother Lemi-Ola Erinkitola felt very proud of her daughters saying she was glad that they were going to attend different universities which would be a good twist to their lives considering that they have spent all their academic lives together. The mother further added, that their achievement was more than just a title – it was a shared memory that the girls would carry for the rest of their lives.
