Joe Budden Says Megan Thee Stallion Isn’t A ‘Superstar’

Megan Thee Stallion is one of today’s most well-known female rap performers. Joe Budden, on the other hand, does not appear to agree. Due to her album sales, the former rapper and presenter of The Joe Budden Podcast claims that the “Houston hottie” does not qualify as a “superstar.”

Budden said that artists should not be deemed superstars if they don’t sell a lot of CDs during a Feb. 25 episode of his podcast, when addressing what qualifies some rappers to be dubbed superstars.

“You’re not a superstar if you can’t sell an album,” Budden said. He soon mentioned that Megan should not be considered as such because her albums don’t move big units. “What stops her from being a superstar if we’re taking out sales? She ain’t sold sh-t.”

Megan’s multiple sponsorship deals, according to Budden, give viewers the impression that she is a superstar. According to Afrotech, Megan has endorsement relationships with Balenciaga, Revlon, Cashapp, and Coach. “Got every brand deal in the world, but also has all the backing from different people. She’s got a lot going on.”

Megan Thee Stallion has released seven projects since 2016, including three mixtapes, three extended plays (EPs), and 2020’s Good News, her debut full-length album. Only Good News has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Her 2019 mixtape, Fever, and her 2020 EP, Suga, both went gold.

Megan has had a lot of success with her single releases over this time.

Megan has ten platinum or multi-platinum singles to her credit as a lead artist, including the Grammy-nominated, quadruple platinum “Savage,” the double-platinum “Hot Girl Summer” featuring Nicki Minaj, and “Body,” not to mention her guest appearance on Maroon 5’s platinum single “Beautiful Mistakes” and her feature on Cardi B’s six-time platinum smash “WAP.”

Budden, on the other hand, did call Cardi B a superstar on the same broadcast.

“Cardi B is a superstar and you can’t argue that she is not,” Budden remarked. Cardi B has only released one album, Invasion of Privacy, which went triple platinum in 2018. As a lead artist, Cardi has ten platinum or multiplatinum singles. Two of those ten songs, “Bodak Yellow” and “I Like It,” have been certified platinum.

Megan continues to rise despite Budden’s judgment. Her partnership with AmazeVR to launch Enter Thee Hottieverse, a 10-city virtual reality concert tour, was revealed on Monday.
