Charlise Freeman, a mother of two, gave her son Taurean a present that will be passed down to the generations.
Freeman uploaded a touching video of her giving her son three houses and $10,000 for his 16th birthday on Monday. Taurean’s Sweet 16 was a total show-stopper, with a crimson, black, and gold color scheme, a 360 photo booth, and so much more.
“He had no idea what was in store….I was about to give him the foundation to set him up for success!!!!,” Freeman captioned her Instagram video.
Under her Instagram image, Freeman penned a lengthy message outlining how being a Black single mother has negative implications. Still, she wouldn’t swap anything for the opportunity to invest in her sons and pave the route for their futures.
“My two boys are my world and I would do anything for them. I understand firsthand how hard it is for a single mother to be raising young Black men in today’s world. My boys are just like other typical kids. They like to listen to all the rap music, play video games, wear they hair crazy, etc. I talk to my oldest all the time about what he wants to do and if something ever happens to me, I would need him to make sure his little brother is OK,” Freeman wrote.
“He always says yeah, OK, mom stop talking like that. We talk about how to carry yourself, never be a follower, don’t let anybody stop you from pursuing your dreams, etc. These last 16 years have been full of ups and downs and dealing with issues that a lot ppl do not like to talk about. I have stood by his side through it all and never once gave up or let the streets or anybody steer him away from me,” she continued.
She described how in-depth her chats with her son are, mentioning Taurean’s interest in real estate and his ability to look for the family when she is away.
“During our many conversations, he always says, ‘mom, I want to get into real estate and be a chef.’ We applied to a business program and a chef program for him to do his junior year. He interviewed for both and was not chosen for either one and he was a hurt and thought it was because of a # of reasons but I just told him it would be OK we will go another route because MOMMY already had some things in the works but I couldn’t tell him what it was because I was saving it for the right moment,” Freeman shared.
“His 16th birthday just happened to be that moment for him and was around the corner,” she said. “When I presented him with those gifts, it was to let him know and show him that no matter what, doors don’t open for you if you continue to push forward, the right one will open and mommy just happens to have the power to open the right one. All the hard work & dedication I put into working & making things happen for my kids I want to pay off for them. I want him to be able to pass things down. I better stop because I can’tt stop crying I can go on and on…..this process is going to be fun because I get to work with my son on something that is really dear to him and see what ideas he has!”
