The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has certified Mariah Carey’s famous track “All I Want for Christmas Is You” as the first-holiday song to be certified diamond.
Carey flaunted the prized award on Twitter with a caption, “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.”
In 1994, for her fourth studio album and her first-holiday album, Merry Christmas, the global superstar co-wrote “All I Want for Christmas is You.” Carey was only 24 when she launched the Christmas hit, which Ariana Grande and Cee-Lo Green have since covered.
Carey’s famous song didn’t reach No. 1 on Billboard until 2019, despite being a holiday fixture for the past quarter-century. But, it had previously reached No. 3 on the chart.
The song is said to have brought in more than $60 million in royalties for the five-time Grammy winner, earning her the title of “Queen of Christmas.” A children’s book and an animated Christmas film have both been made from the song.
In a statement, Carey said, “The continued love for my song never ceases to amaze me and fill my heart with a multitude of emotions.” “It blows my mind that ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ has endured different eras of the music industry. The RIAA DIAMOND award?! Wowww! I’m so fortunate to have the greatest fans on Earth, my Lambily, who continue to support my legacy. I love you,” she added.
Mariah Carey will collaborate with Grammy winner Kirk Franklin and Khalid, the popular musician renowned for singles like “Location” and “Talk” on Mariah’s Christmas: The Magic Continues, which is said to “sprinkle more magic around the world.”
“Following this magical moment, fans can watch Carey’s star-studded, perennial smash-hit, Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special, which continues to bring holiday cheer around the world,” the press release continues.
With a shot from the set of the special, Carey teased the upcoming special on social media. “The Magic Continues… @appletvplus,” she wrote to her ten-million-strong Instagram following.
Carey’s most recent special also featured a star-studded lineup of performers, including a new rendition of her iconic song “Oh Santa!”,” Jennifer Hudson and Ariana Grande joined the chanteuse, with a video of Grande and Carey both hitting their trademark whistle tones which have immediately gone viral on social media.
Mariah alongside Joseph Kahn, Tim Case, Charleen Manca, and Matthew Turke of Supply & Demand will be working hand in hand for Mariah’s Christmas: The Magic Continues.
