Every student dreams of being able to celebrate the most rewarding event of their student life, their college graduation, with friends and family. However, not everyone is fortunate enough to have their parents on the scene as they receive their diploma. Some of them endure the truth that their parents are not around and they must receive their diploma on their own.
Jeric Rivas, one of the students who were not able to experience such expressed his dissatisfaction with his parents’ absence on his Graduation Day to social media. He regarded the occasion as ‘mixed sadness and fun.’
In a recent social media post about his ordeal, Jeric also revealed the bitter reality that ever since he was a child, his family failed to acknowledge his achievements and recognize his efforts.
He even recalls a moment when he received an award back in his elementary years, no one from his family came to support him. The awarding event required the award-winning student’s parents to be present as they give the award to the child, however, because of the absence of Jeric’s parents, he was unable to accept the award on stage alongside other children. Shortly thereafter, he won another award, but this time he asked his friend’s parents to help him during the awarding ceremony as a substitute for the absence of his parents.
Despite his parents’ constant disrespect for his schooling, it did not stop Jeric to have his eyes on the prize. He was persistent and goal-driven, he even moved away from home for part-time work to sustain his college education and augment his college expenses. Recently, Jeric’s hard work came to fruition when he graduated a degree in criminology at the La Concepcion College. He had been looking forward to this day for a long time, and when it finally arrived, Jeric felt anxious than enthralled; he was worried about not having someone by his side as he watched his peers receive their final degrees and celebrate their delight with their parents and other relatives, and he despised the moment for being lonely his entire life. For Jeric, the situation was rather nerve-wracking.
However, when Jeric walked up the stage to accept his diploma and close the chapter of his life as a student, one of his professors went up and saved the day. The professor congratulated Jeric on his accomplishment and gave him an embrace. In a social media post, Jeric conveyed his grateful thought as he thanked his professor for supporting him not just as his teacher but also at some point, as his father. Even though Jeric’s parents never came to support him, he received a lot of love from social media users. The post went viral, and Jeric received many good wishes and blessings from people, not just in his country but instead, all around the world. Many people were inspired because of Jeric’s determination to persevere, be able to carry on, and dream big for himself despite his cruel experiences of having unsupportive parents.
